• He was a long time member of the ScotRail Vale of Atholl Pipe Band.
• He won the Best Bass Section award at the 1990 World Pipe Band Championships.
• His other former pipe bands have included Scottish Gas and David Urquhart Travel.
• Norman is a respected tenor drumming instructor and has taught a number of bands and workshops around the world.
