Ian has
previously played with Banbridge Pipe Band, Pipes & Drums of the
RUC, Victoria Police Pipe Band, 78th Fraser Highlanders Pipe
Band and is currently Pipe Major of Clayton RSL Pipe Band from
Melbourne, Australia.

He was
initially taught by his father Pipe Major Will Lyons BEM and
currently takes Piobaireachd instruction from John Cairns from
Canada. He recently won the New Zealand Silver Chanter.

Ian has
composed many popular tunes such as 'Shoshanna’s Lullaby' and
'As Good as it Gets' and his major composing influences are
Murray Blair, Roddy MacDonald and Mark Saul.

His
favourite band is Strathclyde Police of the 1980’s and his
favourite player is Gordon Walker.
