Some facts about Ian:

  • Ian has previously played with Banbridge Pipe Band, Pipes & Drums of the RUC, Victoria Police Pipe Band, 78th Fraser Highlanders Pipe Band and is currently Pipe Major of Clayton RSL Pipe Band from Melbourne, Australia.

  • He was initially taught by his father Pipe Major Will Lyons BEM and currently takes Piobaireachd instruction from John Cairns from Canada. He recently won the New Zealand Silver Chanter.

  • Ian has composed many popular tunes such as 'Shoshanna’s Lullaby' and 'As Good as it Gets' and his major composing influences are Murray Blair, Roddy MacDonald and Mark Saul.

  • His favourite band is Strathclyde Police of the 1980’s and his favourite player is Gordon Walker.

  • Ian’s loves Thai & Indian food and admits that he is the mouse in the Whiskas TV Advert!
