Some facts about Ryan:

• Ryan was taught by Pipe Major Vernon Hetherington and now receives solo tuition from Willie McCallum. Other major influences on his piping career have been our Richard Parkes and his father Freddie.

• Ryan has won major 'B' grade prizes at the Duncan Johnstone, the Northern Meeting and London. He has also won the Hornpipe & Jig at the Piper of the Year on three occasions and has placed 4th in the Strachan for the 'A' Grade MSR in London.

• His favourite medley selections are Peel Regional Police Pipe Band's from 1992/1993 and FMM's The B52 Medley from 1995/1996.

• He is a well-known composer, having penned many tunes for the band over the years, and published his own book of music entitled The Full Monty in 2004.

• Ryan launched Canning Reedmakers in 2006, selling his own brand of drone and chanter reeds.

• He is also a keen Arsenal supporter and has been known to enjoy the odd pint or two.
