Some facts about Ryan:
-
Ryan was
taught by Pipe Major Vernon Hetherington and now receives solo tuition from
Willie McCallum. Other major influences on his piping career have been our
Richard Parkes and his father Freddie.

Ryan won the
'B' Grade Strathspey & Reel and was 2nd in the March section at
the 2007 Northern Meeting and was 4th in both the 'A' Grade
March and Open Jig at the 2008 Argyllshire Gathering. He has
also won the Hornpipe & Jig section at the Northern Ireland
Piper of the Year on three occasions.

He is a well-known
composer, having penned many tunes for the band over the years,
and published his own book of music entitled The Full Monty in
2004.
He also
teaches full-time at the National Piping Centre in Glasgow.

Ryan launched
Canning Reedmakers in
2006, selling his own brand of drone and chanter reeds.

Ryan is
married to fellow FMM piper Megan Canning (nee: Harrington) and
has been a resident of Glasgow since 2003.
